Marietta is a city located in central Cobb County, Georgia, and is its county seat.
As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 58,748, making it one of metro
Atlanta's largest suburbs.
The city itself covers a large area. Marietta can be divided by West Cobb and East Cobb.
West Cobb is closer to Atlanta and just slightly Northwest up I-75.
Its home of the Cobb Gallaria where many conventions take place, the Big Chicken, Dobbins Airforce Base,
and Lockheed Martin. Its surrounded by Smyrna, Acworth, Kennesaw and Marietta.
West Cobb is still evolving. Few new home communities are mixed with much older communities.
Most homes are 30 to 40 years old. Homes in West Cobb are more affordable than East Cobb.
East Cobb is a truly desirable area. It's located west of Roswell and north of Sandy Springs offering many higher
end homes. These homes are popular and sell quickly eventhough some sit on postage stamp-sized lots.
The school districts in East Cobb are considered some of the best in the country and property taxes in
Cobb are much better than Fulton County.
New homes start on average at $600,000. Homes typically have three and four sides of brick with basements.
Most offer a southern front porch or back deck to enjoy the summer evenings.
Most homes also come with screen porches. Many are $800,000 to over $1million. That?s not to say you
can?t find a home under $300,000, its just going to be older with very little updates.
